Oak to Bright Kitchen Update

Hello and Happy March!

Finally the winter seems to be coming to an end and I am getting over a never ending sinus infection. It's been a long month but I am super excited to share pictures of my sister's newly updated kitchen.

Here are some before and after pictures...
It's pretty amazing how much brighter this space has become with just paint.

The cabinet color is Benjamin Moore - Timid White (link) in satin, exterior paint. To keep them true to color without yellowing we used Minwax Polycrylic (link) for the top coat.

I took the cabinet doors off and sanded them outside. All the surfaces were primed with Bin Primer (link) by using a sponge roller and then back brushing with a Wooster Short Cuts paintbrush (link).
On the back and side of the snack bar I cut 8 inch sections of MDF board and applied the strips to look like paneling. They are slightly distressed.
The counter top edge was sanded down and stained in dark walnut to add continuity with the colors of the tile back splash, which was our inspiration for this redo.
We removed the one lonely cabinet to the left of the sink and added open shelves. It makes the kitchen feel so much more open. (link)
I have to give credit to my three little helpers..
Aren't they the cutest little nephews you've ever seen?

The best part about this project was being able to see these guys every day and hearing the littlest one say "Holly made it!"  (heart throb)
Thank you C, D and E!
These last two pictures are of the foyer in this cute home. We added white accents to tie in with the new color scheme.
Thanks for stopping by and have a fun weekend!

Looks Great Holly! I always love the transformation when painting cabinets white. We recently went from dark walnut cabinets to white and the transformation was huge! I love that you removed the single cabinet, it really does open up the space. So sorry to hear your sinus infection went on for so long. I am having the same problem, I'm on day 10 so far - here's hoping it doesn't take too much longer to get rid of it!! Have a great weekend!

I love the new lighter color of the cabinets. I love white cabinets and always have. I'm sure your sister is happy to have you living near her now so you can help with these types of makeovers. Glad to hear that the winter weather is subsiding. I'm sure you've had your fill! Hope you start feeling better too.

wow, the kitchen looks like a million bucks!!! I can totally see your magic touches and your sister is a lucky one to have you nearby now!!!! Everything looks bigger, fresher and better! That must have been a lot of labor for you, I hate painting! My shoulder hurts just thinking about it...LOL ohhh and thanks for stopping by my blog last night. Actually all of those spring pics were from previous years. I just re-shared some old stuff cuz I haven't gotten this years sprng stuff up yet....Hopefully that will happen this weekend!!!! HUGSSSS

The new paint color does wonders for the space, it's so bright and charming now:) I also like less things on top of the cupboard. I bet you're thrilled with it all!

YES! Love it. Finally a solution for those ugly (what I call 70's paneling) cabinets. Almost every home I've lived in had them. So much brighter. Good job. I'm pinning this for future reference. I love your bar stools too-where did you get them?

I think you did a great job! I have oak as well in beautiful shape. I have to think about painting, however!
